October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Pink on the field, all month long.

Every CBL football and cheer team across DC, Maryland and Baltimore is playing October for the moms, grandmothers, aunties, coaches and neighbors fighting breast cancer, and for the ones we've lost.

What you'll see at games

Pink gear on the field, worn by players, parents and staff. On a CBL game day in October, pink is everywhere you look, because this cause belongs to the whole league, not just the kids in uniform.

Players

Football players suit up with pink socks, gloves, wristbands and towels. Cheer squads add pink bows, poms and ribbons to their uniforms. For many of our 5 to 14 year olds, it's the first time they learn what breast cancer is, and that someone they love may be part of this fight.

Parents

The stands turn pink too. Families show up in pink shirts, hats and scarves, and plenty of signs carry the name of a mom, grandmother, aunt or friend. Wear it for someone, and let your player see you do it.

Staff

Coaches, team moms, chain crews and league staff wear pink on the sidelines all month. When the adults leading our kids show up for this cause, the players learn that taking care of each other is part of the game.

Who are you playing for?

Tell us who your family is honoring this October: a survivor, someone fighting right now, or someone you've lost. We'll turn it into a banner on the CBL Pink Wall for the whole league to see.

Share their first name, how they're connected to your family and your team. Every banner is reviewed by the league before it's posted, usually within a day or two.

1 in 8

About 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Men can get it too. Finding it early gives the best chance of beating it.

Our kids are wearing pink this month. Grown-ups, the best way to honor them is to talk with your doctor about when to start screening. Learn more from the American Cancer Society and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
